My work is contemporary, meditative jewelry, comprised strictly from hand collected, local stone and recycled metal. I collect at various natural beaches along the Hudson, bring it back to my studio in Ferrovia Studios in Kingston, where I cut, polish, and or drill it using lapidary equipment. I set it in recycled metal from a NY refiner. All components are hand made by me. The pieces are one of a kind or limited edition and are inspired by the river and its geological history and forces. The effect of being in nature and connecting to the landscape is a meditative practice that allows me to be restored and connected to the mystery of the earth and our place within it. The use of my jewelry to reconnect with this power of nature and the mind’s ability to be healed by meditation, gives my work layers of purpose and sentiment. I do my best to use materials in my jewelry that have the least negative impact on our environment and humanity. This gives me the freedom to create with out the baggage of the mining industry and it’s toxic industrial consequences to our earth and society.
